Hollywood actor Tom Holland fell prey to a cyber attack when his X account was hacked by scammers hoping to lure ‘Spider-Man’ fans into shelling out big bucks on NFTs.

The actor, who has a substantial following exceeding 7 million on Twitter, had a post that falsely announced a collaboration between the Spider-Man star and a site launching “Spiderverse” NFTs.

The fraudulent post included a link redirecting users to a fraudulent website, promising fans ‘early access’ to an alleged ‘SPIDER’ cryptocurrency and Spiderverse NFTs.

Tom’s team swiftly swung into actor and got the post deleted.

Although the claims of Holland’s involvement in this “Spiderverse” project are false, Marvel had previously had a lot of success with an NFT sale. The studio explored blockchain technology in 2021 and introduced NFTs as part of a promotional campaign for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. While the movie went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide, the collaboration between Marvel and NFT platforms had one of the biggest and highest-earning sales.

This resulted in the creation of exclusive Spider-Man NFTs, including iconic collectables like the first Marvel comic book from 1939.

This hack comes at a time when rumours are rife that a fourth Spider-Man movie is in the works. According to reports, Tom is expected to reunite with Zendaya to star in the upcoming movie. Meanwhile, talks are also on to possibly bring back ‘Spider-Man’ director Sam Rami for the fourth part. He last directed the movie ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
