metaENGINE, the first-of-its-kind infrastructure platform with its own game engine, today announced the successful completion of its first $4 million Seed round. The round was co-led by Lemniscap and Jump Crypto with participation from Polygon Studios, Blockwall, blufolio, Insignius Capital, Future Fund, CoinDCX Ventures, Efficient Frontier, Maelstrom and other leading VC funds and prominent angels.
The $4 million raised from these marquee investors will assist in further development of the metaENGINE platform ahead of its upcoming v1 release, slated to launch during early Q3, 2022. Over 25 GameFi projects are set to join the platform at its launch, with more details to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Alex Shalash, CEO and co-founder at metaENGINE, said: “metaENGINE is being singularly designed and meticulously built with the Metaverse in mind. No other engine combines a publishing platform, MMO networking, and blockchain tools — such as crypto wallet integration and NFT minting — all within a single platform. The interest shown by major blockchain VCs and the broader GameFi developer community serves as an encouraging vote of confidence and bodes well for our forthcoming v1 release.”
metaENGINE builds upon two decades of experience in the development and deployment of massive multiplayer online (MMO) game engine HeroEngine. This expertise in operating a leading real-time, scalable, and cloud-based development platform secured successful licensing agreements with Electronic Arts to develop “Star Wars: The Old Republic”, Zenimax to develop “The Elder Scrolls Online”, and several other MMO projects.
“GameFi is fast becoming a category to watch, especially given the potential impact the sector will have in the development of an open and interoperable global Web 3 infrastructure. metaENGINE’s unique approach to game development puts it in a strong position to lead the development platform of choice for the fast expanding GameFi ecosystem,” said Roderik van der Graaf, Founder of Lemniscap. “Congratulations to metaENGINE on this successful funding round, we have every confidence that Alex and his team will be able to push the envelope on decentralized game development, to become the leading GameFi development infrastructure player in a future that is increasingly digital and decentralized.”
metaENGINE provides developers with a comprehensive suite of tools to build and publish massive multiplayer online GameFi projects from scratch, mint NFTs, and in the future migrate games from other platforms, and more. Owing to metaENGINE’s unique real-time collaborative environment, multiple developers and content creators can simultaneously develop their games anywhere in the world. In addition, the platform will deliver gaming guild analytics and management tools, native multi-blockchain compatibility with Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and others. A multi-chain tooling suite with SDKs, wallets, NFT marketplace and transactional layer is being built to be ready at launch.
Importantly, metaENGINE addresses one of the most critical, yet seldom discussed challenges related to blockchain gaming — asset interoperability. Games developed on metaENGINE will feature not just multi-chain compatibility but also multi-game functionality, enabling items to be used across multiple game environments – this is fundamental to the creation of a true open metaverse gaming experience.
Current blockchain gaming tools are still relatively rudimentary. The incorporation of Web3 elements such as play-to-earn or NFTs requires games to have a substantial amount of external infrastructure that is not available on any single platform. Other platforms looking to embrace blockchain features have typically opted to provide blockchain Software Development Kits (SDKs), as is the case with Forte and Enjin, but this still requires additional integration work.
Counted among metaENGINE’s multi-chain integrations is the Polygon Network. Polygon enables a sustainable base of operations for game developers to mitigate the prohibitive gas fees associated with the Ethereum main chain.
Ishan Negi, Head of Operations at Polygon Studios, the NFT and gaming arm of Polygon, said: “We believe metaENGINE will make a huge impact on the GameFi space — both for developers and gamers. We’re excited to get behind this project that will massively accelerate interoperability between web3 games.”
