The IOTA blockchain network is changing its consensus mechanism

The IOTA blockchain ecosystem has announced the launch of its “IOTA 2.0” testnet, designed to improve scalability and security.

This one new public test network aims to be environmentally friendly by reducing energy consumption, which is attractive to companies focused on green solutions.

IOTA’s IOTA 2.0 will move from a consensus mechanism known as Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS), improving the scalability and efficiency of the network. The testnet eliminates the central structure that previously governed network consensus, aiming to combat the influence of centralized figures and explore the concepts of efficiency and true decentralization.

The new consensus mechanism is designed to improve the security of the network by making it more resistant to attacks and crashes” claimed IOTA. This improvement is critical to gaining trust and expanding adoption in sectors such as finance, healthcare and smart cities.

IOTA clarified that the new testnet is a developer test environment with no real value and may have random restarts with “Grace period“.

On social media, developers hailed IOTA’s new testnet as a milestone that offers new opportunities for the decentralized financial ecosystem. Some believe that it can cause Ethereum and reach a market capitalization of $1 billion. There are even comments that IOTA is approaching a solution to the blockchain trilemma of scalability, decentralization and security.
